Noah Alper Mentors Rocket Scientists

National Labs Entrepreneurship Academy: Hosted by UC Davis-Graduate School of Management

“The three-day National Labs Entrepreneurship Academy is the premier academic program for commercializing science and engineering innovations coming out of Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL) and Sandia National Labs (SNL). It is intended for employees of the National Labs, and is a springboard for moving research out of the lab and into the world.

The academy is taught by university faculty, investors, entrepreneurs and industry experts who serve as mentors and guest speakers. Participants gain the knowledge and network-building skills needed to develop the commercial potential of their research or idea.”

Noah Alper has been selected to serve as a mentor in this academy for the past two years.

Noah speaks at The Berkeley Forum at UC Berkeley

The Berkeley Forum is a non-partisan, student-run organization at the University of California, Berkeley. Established in 2012, the Forum hosts debates, panels, and talks by leading experts from a variety of fields.

The Forum exists to provide the Berkeley community a platform for the free expression and debate of a wide range of viewpoints. As students are busy pursuing their coursework, The Forum allows them to engage with individuals and ideas with which they might not otherwise be able to. The challenging, critical colloquy that the Forum promotes is essential to attaining a truly complete education.

Recent events have featured Senator Rand Paul, tech entrepreneur Peter Thiel, Khan Academy founder Salman Khan, and exiled Russian Duma member Ilya Ponomarev, among other distinguished guests.

The Magnes is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Noah's New York Bagels Collection (1989-1996) documenting the early history of Noah's New York Bagels. Founded in Berkeley by Noah Alper, resident entrepreneur, consultant, and philanthropist, the Noah's Bagels brand rose to national prominence as the largest kosher retailer in the U.S. The business was sold to Einstein Bros. Bagels in 1996. Noah's neighborhood stores, which Alper referred to as “unapologetically Jewish,” served as a popular community gathering place for all manner of West Coast Jews. Among the materials now archived at The Magnes are business records, photographs, memorabilia, recordings of radio and television broadcasts, and promotional t-shirts...

The program will include an intimate display of select items from the collection, Noah Alper's own reminiscences about the early days of the business, and of course a bagel–based reception (shmear provided).
